What Can I Claim For Holiday
Accidents? |
 |
|
|
Travel and tourism is now one
of the largest industries in the UK. As more and more people travel on holiday
the numbers of those injured or ill abroad is rising. Tour operators
must show a duty of care to their customers, ensuring that accommodation is
safe and clean and that the customer is not exposed to risk of injury, disease
or infection.
If you have suffered illness as a result of bad
food, water, poor hygiene or been involved in an
injury during your holiday you could be entitled to
compensation.
Did you suffer an illness or injury on a package
holiday? When you purchase a package holiday, your tour operator
automatically has a duty of care towards you and is responsible for giving you
what they have promised. The 1992 Package Travel Regulations has been
introduced to protect those on holiday abroad and allows for claims to be
brought in the UK rather than in a foreign country.
Have you been
injured while travelling on your holiday? Rail companies, airlines
and ferry companies must all adhere to international regulations and laws by
offering good standards of service and high safety levels. If any of
these applies to you or if you would like advice on injury claims abroad,
contact us now.
You can claim for:
Pain and
inconvenience of injury. Loss of income during the time you are unable to
work. Cost of further treatment i.e. medical checks, physiotherapy,
osteopathy etc. Psychological therapy. Extra travel costs and expenses
resulting from injuries.
Remember: Don't ever travel
abroad without insurance!
Important Notice
From
January 2006, Health Insurance cards replaced the E111 forms (giving cover for
medical treatment on the Continent).
Not carrying one could make your
travel insurance invalid.
It entitles the holder to free or subsidised
"essential medical treatment" in all EU countries, as well as Switzerland,
Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Keep all doctors', chemists' and hospital
bills to support your claim.
